# Ingredient List:
→ Pastry
01 - 2 sheets ready-made puff pastry (about 17.6 oz), thawed if frozen
02 - 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
→ Apple Filling
03 - 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
04 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
05 - 1 tablespoon brown sugar
06 - 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
07 - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
08 - 1 teaspoon lemon juice
09 - 1 teaspoon cornstarch
→ Decoration (Optional)
10 - Pearl sugar or coarse sanding sugar
11 - Icing (powdered sugar mixed with a small amount of milk)
# Directions:
01 - Set oven temperature to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Combine diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a medium bowl; mix well and set aside.
03 - Roll out puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Using a mitten-shaped cookie cutter or a template and knife, cut out 16 mitten shapes.
04 - Place 8 mitten shapes on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of apple filling onto the center of each, leaving a margin around edges.
05 - Brush the edges of each pastry base with beaten egg. Top with remaining mitten cutouts and firmly press edges with a fork to seal.
06 - Brush tops with additional egg wash. Optionally, sprinkle pearl or sanding sugar over the surface for added texture.
07 - Carefully cut a small slit in the top of each pie to allow steam to escape during baking.
08 - Place baking sheet in oven and bake for 20 to 22 minutes, until pies are golden brown and puffed.
09 - Remove from oven and let cool slightly. If desired, drizzle each pie with prepared icing before serving.
